For those of you wrestling fans (or those of you looking for an excuse to start watching wrestling again), some filmmakers in Pennsylvania are putting together a movie called "Pro Wrestlers vs. Zombies". The film appears to be still in the very early stages of filming, but could be an interesting take on zombie lore. According to the film's director, "Every zombie movie has zombies getting shot in the head, or people
doing martial arts … but what about good American fisticuffs? That’s
what led to the wrestler idea." For more information, and to see a preview, go here.
Yep kiddies, it is almost that time again! It is close to Halloween and Zombie Prom time! This year's event in the greater Birmingham area will be October 15th at Das Haus aka The German Club on 2nd Ave N. This year's event is shaping up to be a great one with tons of amazing door prizes, local bands, a costume contest with a King and Queen of Zombie Prom to be crowned, and a bunch of other activities to be thrown in for good measure.

Here's something that might get you to tune back into MTV. MTV has a new show called Death Valley which can only be described as Reno 911 meets the Zombie Apocalypse (along with vampires and werewolves). With the addition of this and Teen Wolf is MTV becoming MonsterTV?
Tallahassee.com has an article stuck behind their paywall about 10 things to do while waiting for the Zombie Apocalypse. It looks like 2 of them are "stroll through a mossy cemetery" and "see edgy art" (weird). That got us thinking...what do you think some good things to do are while waiting for the Zombie Apocalypse?
I was reading an article today about how much zombies have become a part of main stream culture, and it occurred to me how many times I have had that conversation over the last several years. Once upon a time, there were no cutesy zombie earrings at the teeny bopper jewelry store. There weren't "I love zombies!" bumper stickers so easily available. Do you miss those days? On the surface, I kinda do, because way back when it was really rare to find someone else who had watched the movie White Zombie. Does that make it better, though?
I have actually come to really enjoy the fact that they have become so popular. There are a few irritants, but the good far outweighs the bad. Never have the things I love been so easily available, and though I do miss the joy of finding something zombie related because it is so rare, I enjoy being able to be picky about the edition of Night of the Living Dead I would like to purchase. Also, I really enjoy the camaraderie that comes with more zombie culture merchandise available. I have actually made a few great new friends through Zombie Proms, my blog, a few zombie shorts we have done, and even from people telling me they liked my bumper sticker on my car.
Long story short, I am for it. Long live the zombie revolution!!!
The Miami Herald has a review of the latest zombie show to hit the stage, Song of the Living Dead. The Herald says they "don’t pull off a musical with the coherence of either Cannibal! or Evil Dead," but give it a generally overall positive review. You can read the full review here.
The show is playing at the Promethean Theater at Nova Southeastern University in Miami through September 4, 2011, and who knows, you might get lucky and run into Bruce Campbell filming Burn Notice in Miami.
For those of you in the Birmingham, AL area this weekend (Aug 27), be sure to check out Helldriver, from the makers of Tokyo Gore Police and Mutant Girls Squad. From the preview below, it looks to be a fun, zombie-killing good time.
There comes a time in every man's life when he must sit through the dreaded engagement pictures. One man redeemed us all, and turned his photo session into a zombie killing fest. See the photos here.
The question from the next "of the Dead" flick is, if zombie brains grew super mega pot, would you smoke it? The main characters in the series give a big fatty yes. Bong of the Dead is coming out this year, and what honestly impresses us the most is the fact that they did the entire film on $5000. That is fairly unimaginable by today's movie making budget standards. It promises to actually be fairly funny, so when we get a chance, we will give it a fair shake.
So, where do you want to be when the zombie apocalypse happens? One place that would be pretty terrible would be at Comic-Con. Could you imagine the sea of costumed zombies coming to get you? I just got this amazing mental picture of a group of scantily clad anime girls chasing down conflicted boys... I digress. Fanboys vs Zombies will be just that... a comic book about what will happen during the zombie apocalypse at Comic-Con. I think that is enough to sell it... I know I am ready for my copy!
This article made its way around several years ago, but it is still a really fun read! I ran across it recently, and thought it would be a fun revisit, and fun new article for those of you who never read it. Cracked is always a good place for an interesting read, and lucky for us, they have tons of interesting articles about zombies! So go read about "5 Scientific Reasons a Zombie Apocalypse Could Actually Happen", then click away at the recommended articles, such as scientific reasons the zombie apocalypse might fail and 5 reasons you secretly want the zombie apocalypse to happen!
We know this is a fluff story, but we are REALLY excited for each tidbit that comes from the set of World War Z! We saw a story today on Angie + babies (those two words always seem to go together) were visiting Brad on the set, along with about 300 zombie extras. Yes, this story was in People...
On a slightly more serious and actually informative note, Matthew Fox is officially on cast and Ed Harris is being discussed. Man, this movie is going to be good!
If you happen to live in LA, and don't mind being in a super crowded mall, you have the chance to meet Simon Pegg tomorrow as he signs copies of his new book. He did an interview with the Los Angeles Times recently in which he talks zombies everything from zombies to Star Trek. Possibly the most interesting part of the article was when he broke down the meaning of Shaun of the Dead, which is more in depth than most people would probably have given him credit for. Either way, really good fun and worth the read ->
Not too much more time until it is time for Walking Dead! They are shutting down a large highway in Georgia to bring us zombie joy! We just have to wait til October to see it... sigh... Here is the story in its entirety from the Atlanta Journal Constitution, as they talk about how much good the filming is doing for their economy.
