It is October, which means Halloween is coming and it is time to start planning your costume for this year as well as start up the horror flicks! We have Netflix streaming, which is a pretty darned handy tool for catching a new movie you otherwise might not have run across. Looking through, we found one called The Video Dead, a 1987, very MTV generation B-movie about zombies with a movie poster that looked like Iron Maiden cover art. A possessed TV has zombies living inside, and when you turn it on, they can escape... so kind of like The Ring meets The Fog with zombies, bad acting, and curious make-up. They were obviously on a low budget, because some of the zombies looked great, and some of them looked like Flock of Seagulls had a run in with Crest toothpaste and the toothpaste won. The zombies sometimes acted very zombie-like, with the eating and the killing, but sometimes, they seemed to just wanted to play Gremlins like pranks, still resulting in death and gore.
Overall, if you are expecting the cheese and like a bloody B-movie, we think you should check this one out. It is a good time and could result in amazing Halloween fun if your friends sat around and watched the movie MST3000 style.

October is a great month for zombies in Birmingham, AL! Soonest is a zombie walk on Saturday, October 2 ยท 6:00pm - 8:30pm in 5 points. Click here for details ->

Despite terrible reviews from critics, Resident Evil: Afterlife has smashed it's competition at the box office. We haven't seen it yet, but we can't imagine 3D zombies being all that bad.
For those of you making the tough decision of where to attend college, the University of Baltimore is the place to be. Arnold Blumberg, author of Zombiemania, is teaching a English 333, or as the students are calling it "Zombie 101". The class consists of watching zombie movies and reading zombie comics. So, now there's a whole new reason to be scared of Trekkies. The LA Times has an article about Night of the Living Trekkies by authors Kevin David Anderson and Sam Stall. Anyone know the Klingon word for brains?
According to Slashfilm, Director Barry Levinson (Good Morning Vietnam, Rain Man) is currently working on a zombie movie called The Bay.
It appears that they're taking the approach of using "found footage", video from cell phone cameras, 911 tapes, etc. While I personally don't have a problem with this style of movie, I don't know how well camera phones and 911 tapes are going to translate to horror film.
